Kavarna is a town located in the south-eastern part of Bulgaria, 49 km from Dobrich and 64 km from Varna. The town is attractive not only as a resort but as cultural historical centre. There is also a small yacht port in the town.Kavarna is one of the ancient towns on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is a small port town which has a broad outlet on the Black Sea to the Eastern and Southern sides. The coast is varied and there are cliffs combined with beaches and abrasive formations such as caves, fissures, etc. The area lacks surface running water and irrigation is most valuable. There is a steep cape called Kaliakra near the town, famous for the romantic legend about forty ‘maidens’ committing suicide in the name of Christianity. It is also famous for the caves - once the habitat of the extremely rare Black Sea monk seal. Many sights can be found here and among these are Rusalka, Kaliakra, Yaylata. in the unique reserve called Tauk Liman (Bird's Bay) 20 km to the east of Kavarna is located Rusalka vacation complex. The region around Rusalka and the plateau surrounding it are the only preserved wild steppe on the continent. The picturesque rocky coast, the venerable oaks, the little sand stripes, and the plants attract millions of birds and turn the bird bay into an oasis of the untouched nature.Kaliakra is a prominent cape 2 km into the sea, located 8 km from the village of Bulgarevo, Kavarna municipality. The cape is a natural and an archaeological reserve. The Aristotle cormorant can be found nesting there. It was built in the beginning of the 15th century. The Hammam is massive stone tholos baths. Together with the original fountains dating back to the same period near the baths, the hammam is a very interesting architectural ensemble. It has been completely restored.
The old fountains were 12 spring fountains situated along the valley to the port. A part of them were destroyed and the rest were restored recently. The great amount of spring water forms a small river. It is used for putting a few mills and a primitive water-mill into motion. The ethnographic museum is an old house for the end of 19th century and represents the oldest and most significant architectural treasure of the population from the area. Its interior reveals the customs and culture of the people inhabiting that part of the country during that period.
